Gossip Gangster loses 30kg

South African blogger and the ‘Gossip Gangster of the North’ has kept social media captivated with his dramatic weight-loss regime over the last six months. His Instagram and Twitter journey have tracked the ups and downs of his incredibly personal failures and successes which, in total, saw Mika lose more than 30kg. But, as he tells me over the phone, the journey toward the body of his dreams ”was a lot of hard work” .

I ask Stefano what kick-started the process for him. “Last year I was in hospital with kidney stones and the doctor said that becoming healthy and losing weight would really help my recovery from the surgery. So the process started with health and really the skinniness was a perk.” What does it take to shed 30kg? Well, most of us would like to believe there is a pill or a shake but it seems the best way is to sweat - a lot.

Mika is one of the brand ambassadors for S.W.E.A.T 1000, the latest fitness craze taking over the country. In a nutshell, you go to the gyms, which are reportedly very luxurious, and do an hour long cardio class that sheds 1000 calories per class. Local celebs and twitterati have been going mad for the classes and the results are speaking for themselves. “I started S.W.E.A.T 1000 with a high cardio training routine which helped raise my fitness and then, of course, just changing my diet. I’m now eating more than I’ve ever eaten before but this time I’m eating the correct kind of foods. I used to eat unhealthy take-away food but I’m now cooking a lot more at home.”

Mika’s tips for making it healthy? “I share weekly tips on Instagram of the things that have worked for me. It's important that people learn that everyone is different, so what may work for one person may not work for another. But if I had to give a few tips, the first would be to make sure you are consuming enough water. Water is key! Secondly, be cautious about your carb intake. I would suggest lowering your carb intake but not cutting it out completely. I've seen people who have cut carbs out completely and yes they have lost weight - but often they look sick. Keep some carbs in your diet - just the right carbs. And thirdly, cardio. If you want to lose weight, cardio is the only way. Jump on a treadmill, start swimming or Body Combat classes or even join S.W.E.A.T 1000.”
