Graeme Smith becomes a dad

Proteas Test cricket captain Graeme Smith and his wife Morgan Deane have welcomed a healthy baby girl.

Graeme and his Irish pop star wife have named their daughter Cadence Christine Smith.

Graeme returned home from the Proteas tour of the UK to witness the birth of his first child and will rejoin the squad in England before the start of the second cricket Test on August 2.

Smith tweeted the following today:
‘Our daughter,Cadence Christine Smith was born this morning,3,35kg mother and daughter doing well.thx for all kind wishes that was amazing (sic)’

Twitter was abuzz with friends and fans congratulating the couple on the birth of their firstborn.

AB de Villiers tweeted the following: “Morning run with the guys. Congrats to @GraemeSmith49 and @MorganDeane with the birth of their daughter! Can’t wait to hear the stories”

Paul Adams said: “Congrats to @GraemeSmith49 and @MorganDeane on the birth of there daughter. May she bring loads of joy ;-)”

Smith returned to South Africa on Monday to be his wife for the birth of their daughter.

Morgan and Graeme were married in August last year in an intimate ceremony in Newlands, Cape Town.
