President Jacob Zuma's name was among three that were abused by officials to get permission for a private plane carrying the guests of the Gupta wedding to land at the Waterkloof air force base.

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe confirmed this at a briefing on the investigation into the incident in Pretoria today.

The names of Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula were also used in the process, which was described by Radebe as "irregular".

He said the department of public service would lead a "public service awareness campaign to discourage the negative culture of name-dropping in the form of the improper use of the names and members of the executive in the public sector".

Radebe said the clearance for the landing of the aircraft was "based on false information and abuse of privileges, the combination of which resulted in the manipulation of the process by various persons who shared a common purpose and acted in concert".

Chief of State Protocol Bruce Koloane was the official at the centre of it all.

Radebe said already a number of transgressions related to the landing and the blue light escort of the wedding guests were identified, and the relevant departments and agencies would look into these.

The full report on the investigation into the landing of the Guptas' wedding guests at Waterkloof is set to be released this week.
