HIV prevalence drops in Mozambique

2009-12-01 12:28

MOZAMBIQUE’S HIV/Aids prevalence rate has declined from 16% to 15%,

according to statistics released by Health Minister Paulo Ivo Garrido

today.

Garrido was speaking at a ceremony in Maputo to mark World Aids

Day.

Although there was a decrease, President Armando Guebuza told the

gathering the statistics were not encouraging and called for more information to

be made available on the disease.

“There are many people who do not understand how HIV/Aids is

transmitted and how one can prevent infection.

“We appeal for massive dissemination of information on the disease

throughout the country in order to fight the pandemic,” said Guebuza.
