This sports gear is made for runners and joggers, and its tag line is “engineered to the exact specifications of championship athletes”.

But fashionistas everywhere are wearing Nike’s slick Tech Pack line as a fashion statement.

The line?–?which is promoted by such sport stars as tennis players Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal?–?was first launched in fleece fabric last August in time for the US winter. This featured the slick-looking poncho, windrunner, track jacket and pants, hoodie and sweatshirt.

And just in time for the US summer, the poncho and windrunner are back in a lighter fabric based on Nike’s “breathable, stable and resilient” Hyperfuse technology, which was originally created for basketball shoes, but has since migrated to clothing. A new addition to the line is a hooded sleeveless vest.

It features three layers?–?for stability, breathability and durability?–?fused together through heat and pressure to create an innovative piece of fabric unattainable through traditional sewing. I just may trade in my old running T-shirts for the vest and windrunner.

The Tech Hyperfuse collection is now available at nike.com (ranging from R1?300 to R1?800) and hits selected retailers next week.
