‘Houseless’ Brickz could easily skip country, state argues

2013-11-18 12:55

Despite his album Sweety My Baby selling thousands of units eight years ago, kwaito star Brickz doesn’t own a home, the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court has heard.

This was revealed by state prosecutor Willem le Roux when arguing against Brickz being granted bail today.

“The accused does not have a house or own any immovable property. He stated in his affidavit that he only owns a R380 000 Audi Q5 and furniture worth R900 000. We don’t know where this furniture is and we can only conclude that they don’t exist as he does not own any immovable property. So it will be easy for him to leave the country and go stay in Botswana, or Lesotho, or Zimbabwe, as there is nothing that ties him to this country,” he said.

Le Roux also said that it would be easy for Brickz to skip the country and forfeit the proposed R2 000 bail because he is facing a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.

“This amount is nothing compared with the 10-year jail term he is facing”, he said.

Magistrate Piet Kotze postponed the case to tomorrow and said he was not in the right frame of mind to arrive at the correct verdict.
