Bassline Africa Day Concert: Two nights of the best in continental African music

Venue: Bassline, Newtown

Date: May 24 and 25

Time: 8pm till late (on both days)

Tickets: Presold on for R150 and some will be sold at the door

The ninth annual Africa Day concert has acts such as South African artists Thandiswa Mazwai and Guy Buttery, Zimbabwean artist Tanga Pasi, Della & Friends, from Cameroon, and many others.

Says PR coordinator of the event, Thato Tholo: “People attending can expect an eclectic mix of music.”

Sanaa Africa festival

Venue: The Nunnery, at Wits Theatre Complex Corner Jorissen and Station Street, Braamfontein

Date: May 23 to 26

Event: A fine arts exhibition themed “new art”, showcasing works by established artists of African diaspora. There will be poetry, films and theatre pieces showing at the event.

Indigenous Musical Instrument Festival

Venue: Soweto Theatre, Jabulani

Date: May 25

Time: 7pm till late

Tickets: R100 presold, R120 at the venue

Words up: Spoken Word

The event organised by the Goethe Institute and the Spoken Word Project will feature spoken-word mavericks from across the country.

Time: 7pm

Venue: King Kong Building, 6 Verwey Street, New Doornfontein

Event: Africa Day Celebrations at Artscape Theatre

Date: May 25

Time: 7.30pm

Tickets: R80 per person at Computicket

The concert will feature indigenous jazz performances and popular Western Cape choirs.

Event: Africa Day Concert to celebrate African unity

Date: May 25

Venue: Durban International Convention Centre

Time: 6.30pm

Price: Tickets are sold for R100 at Computicket. The line-up includes the following artists: Mafikizolo, Lira, Professor and Ukhozi FM DJ Linda Sibiya.
