How To ... get your hands on Afcon tickets

2013-01-18 16:58

The biggest soccer spectacle on the continent is about to kick off.

A question that has had countless spectators in a quandary, however, is how to get their hands on Africa Cup of Nations tickets.

Matches will be played at the National Stadium in Johannesburg; Moses Mabhida in Durban; Mbombela in Nelspruit; Royal Bafokeng in Rustenburg and Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth.

According to Sipho Sithole, the tournament’s chief communications officer, a number of ways exist to get your hands on tickets.

The tournament’s ticket retailer, eQTickets, sells entry to the stadiums on a number of platforms.

You will need your ID to buy tickets.

Option 1

The first way is to buy them from the eQTickets website, www.eqtickets.com.

You will have to register with your email address, ID and cellphone number.

Upon registering you will be taken to a match and ticket-selection screen where you will be able to select the match you want to watch, the category of ticket and the number of tickets you want.

Prices are as follows:

Group stage matches

Category 1: R70

Category 2: R60

Category 3: R50

Mbombela Stadium offers only Category 3 matches.

Quarterfinals

Category 1: R100

Category 2: R90

Category 3: R75

Semifinals

Category 1: R140

Category 2: R120

Category 3: R100

3rd & 4th place play-offs

These will be held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and the prices are the same as for the group-stage matches.

Finals

Category 1: R200

Category 2: R150

Category 3: R100

Once the information is complete, press the “ontinue” button, which will take you to a screen where you will be able to double-check that your selection is correct.

When you are satisfied that it is, click the “Checkout” button.

You will now land on a screen where you are required to make the payment with your credit card.

Once you have supplied that information and there are no glitches with your credit card (it is important to ensure that your card is internet-banking enabled and that it allows you to make purchases with all merchandisers), you will be emailed and SMSed the confirmation of your booking.

You will then have to take the reference number and your ID to a participating SuperSpar outlet to redeem your tickets. In smaller towns that do not have SuperSpars, tickets can be redeemed at Spar outlets.

Scroll down to view a list of participating SuperSpar stores.

Option 2

An email address to which ticket orders can be made is: afcon2013bookings@eqtickets.com.

Option 3

You can also go to a SuperSpar to purchase your tickets. Payments can be made using cash, debit card or credit card.

Option 4

Tickets are also available from the eQTickets call centre on 087 980 3000.

Your call will be answered by an agent to whom you will communicate your ticket needs.

You will be given a reference number to take to a SuperSpar outlet to redeem your tickets.

You will need a credit card and ID number to make the payment and can book a maximum of six tickets for each game.

Option 5

Another avenue is to buy tickets at the respective stadiums.

Kiosks will be available for fans to buy or redeem bought tickets on match days.

Buying tickets in this way is risky as they may already be sold out.

However, those with reference numbers are guaranteed tickets.

Option 6

There are also two eQTickets concept stores where tickets can be purchased in Johannesburg; one is at Jabulani Mall in Soweto, and the other at the Da Vinci Hotel in Sandton City.
