Ignore the ‘howlers’, youth league tells Manyi

2011-02-04 10:43

Newly-appointed government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi should ignore the “howlers” questioning his appointment, the ANC Youth League said today.

“Comrade Jimmy Manyi should immediately focus on his new responsibilities and not pay any attention to howlers who are questioning his readiness to speak on behalf of the government of South Africa, even before he starts,” spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said.

He congratulated Manyi on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to “cogently articulate government positions”.

Manyi was appointed chief executive of the Government Information and Communication System, replacing government spokesperson Themba Maseko.

Manyi, former labour department director general, is also president of the Black Management Forum (BMF).

He was suspended from his labour department job after he allegedly tried to solicit business from Norwegian diplomats in an official government meeting last year.

Former youth league president and current Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula defended Manyi when previous BMF presidents called for his removal as the forum’s head.
