SA Football Association (Safa) president Kirsten Nematandani believes his “achievements” over the past four years must deliver him another term at the top job in domestic football.

This as the campaign to lead the federation ahead of its elections in September heats up and Nematandani boasted that there were “many deliverables and achievements during my leadership”.

He added: “That’s why I’m saying I’m suitable to go back and take the plan across (Safa technical master plan) and implement it,” said Nematandani.

He added that factions in the football body must “instead come together” and that he was unfazed by reports of individuals wanting him out “because I’m a leader”.

He said this day on the sidelines of the third edition of the African Championship (Chan 2014) launch at Safa House in Nasrec, south of Joburg.

The tournament, scheduled to be staged here in South Africa next year between January 11 and February 01, will feature 16 national teams from across the continent.

Speaking at the event, minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula was confident that SA as a “mega events destination in the world, Chan 2014 its going to be spectacular like you’ve never seen before.”

The local organising committee (LOC) that organised the recent 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) has been tasked to carry out the mandate of delivering another successful event in Chan 2014.

LOC chief executive Mvuzo Mbebe promised that “we will execute the Chan 2014 to that standard of the Afcon, which was a great success”.

Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Polokwane are the host cities chosen for 20-day long event.
