Hotline jumped in to help Jabu Magagula of Emalahleni in Mpumalanga

to locate an insurance company that almost left him with the burden of raising a

shortfall payment of R64?000 after an accident.

Wyatt Insurance left Magagula in an awkward position after it

failed to pay off vehicle financier WesBank the initial R44?000 shortfall which

had accumulated interest of R20?000 over a period of two years.

He had bought top-up insurance from the insurer through African

Independent Brokers (AIB).

He also had comprehensive cover and at the time of

his accident the market value of his car was R138?000.

AIB paid R94?000 towards the damages, leaving Magagula with the

shortfall of R44?000 that was supposed to be paid by Wyatt Insurance.

But sadly he couldn’t locate the insurer and Hotline

intervened.

Liesl Reid, portfolio manager at Guardrisk Insurance Company, Wyatt

Insurance’s parent company, promised to look into the matter.

Last week the excited Magagula called Hotline to confirm that the

shortfall had been settled.

What remains to be done now is for the insurer to

write a confirmation letter.
