After nerve-wrecking experiences from racing Usain Bolt in the build-up to the London Olympics last year, SA sprint ace Simon Magakwe will face the Jamaican superman again – this time in the relay.

Magakwe’s US-based agent Oliver Topueth said the 26-year-old and a team of four other South African sprinters have been confirmed to take on Bolt and Yohan Blake in the 4x100m relay at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic on June 27.

Topueth said: “The race will likely produce a new unofficial club world record, with the fastest (Bolt) and second fastest man (Blake) in history both competing for the Racers Track Club of Jamaican coach Glen Mills.”

He said other other athletes who were likely to be picked alongside Magakwe were Ofentse Mogawane, Hannes Dreyer, Gideon Trotter and Lebogang Moeng.

Ironically, Ostrava was the infamous track where Magakwe false-started in the field that included Olympic champion Bolt.

He raced the global sprint icon three times in a few months leading up to the London Olympics last year.

“I feel good this time,” said the lad from Itsoseng near Mahikeng in North West.

“Maybe God wants me to race Bolt until I run 9 seconds,” he joked, referring to his desire of smashing the SA 100m record, which he equalled in 10.06 seconds last year.

Magakwe had a training stint with the Jamaican club on the Caribbean island in 2009.

Bolt anchored the Jamaican 4x100m team – made up of Blake, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater – to an Olympic gold medal in a world record 36.84 seconds in London in August last year.

The South African team won the last three editions of the African Championships.
