JSC suspends Concourt interviews

2009-09-02 15:04

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has postponed a scheduled meeting to interview 22 judges for four posts on the Constitutional Court bench.
The action follows the death of Beauty Langa, the wife of Chief Justice Pius Langa.
“The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) sitting that was scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7 has been postponed at the request of commissioners due to the passing away of Mrs B Langa, who is the wife of the Chief Justice of South Africa and chairperson of the JSC,” the organisation said in a statement today.
“The sitting will (now) take place at the Walter Sisulu Hall, Kliptown, Soweto from September 20-22,” it said.
Beauty Langa died on Sunday after a long illness. She was 64.
The 22 judges who are to be interviewed for the four posts include controversial Cape Judge President John Hlophe, who the JSC cleared of gross misconduct last week.
