JZ’s lack of education

2013-03-10 10:00

It’s a fact that academics play a pivotal role in the development of a nation.

The recent lambasting of the ANC by many academics and intellectuals, mostly blacks, shows just how bad things are in the governing party.

I’m not suggesting that academics are superior to the illiterate and that anything they say must be heeded. We all know, however, the fundamentals of being well educated and the qualities that come with an intense education.

Professors Shadrack Gutto, Njabulo Ndebele and Barney Pityana, and Dr Mamphela Ramphele and many other academics, gave the ANC a very serious tongue-lashing.

I know that some people will apply defensive tactics and lame reasoning to suggest that these educated men and women are saying these things only because President Jacob Zuma is uneducated.

It is a fact that Zuma’s lack of formal education exposes his thinking and way of doing things.

And indeed, if he had been to a classroom, he would have reacted smarter to a lot of issues affecting our nation.

I echo Pityana’s statements “that since Zuma’s administration took over, the balance within the ANC has shifted.

That the ANC has become less and less tolerant of divergent views and opinions, and there’s a lot of disillusionment with the leadership”.

No amount of money can buy the benefits of education.
