Jacob Zuma’s running away, EFF supporters sing

Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa is abuzz with activity ahead of the launch of the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF’s) manifesto this morning.

The stadium was nearly full by the time the rally started at 10am, and crowds of the upstart party’s supporters were still trickling in from outside.

Some were heard singing: “We will bring back Malema, even if Zuma is against it.”

Cars parked outside the venue, with giant Cope and DA billboards overlooking it, were playing loud revolutionary music. One of them is a popular struggle song, which has been adapted to say, “Zuma is running away”.

Food and drinks vendors seemed to be doing well for themselves as hungry and thirsty EFF supporters snapped up their wares.

One vendor commented that he wished leader Julius Malema could bring more rallies to Tembisa.

Malema is expected to unveil his election blueprint before midday, and told supporters last night in Boksburg that he wanted to be the kingmaker in this election.

An ANC convoy of motorbikes and Minis was seen outside Tembisa this morning preparing to enter the East Rand township in style.

By the look of things, the township will be painted red, black, green and gold by the supporters of both parties.

Security is tight and no skirmishes have been reported so far.
