Jill Scott promises Joburg night to remember

2014-12-12 15:37

Multi-award winning singer Jill Scott has arrived in Johannesburg ahead of her one night only show at the Coca Cola Dome, tomorrow.

This is not her first trip to SA as she headlined a sold out Cape Town Jazz Festival last year. When asked why she was doing only one show, the singer revealed: “That’s all I was offered. I would love to do Cape Town again, the other parts of the country, as well as other parts of the continent.”

The singer spoke about the recent and growing protests in her native United States saying “I think that the laws are unjust... and there needs to be certain mandates that ensure fairness and we don’t have that. We need a new mandate. And people were angry initially, too afraid and now it’s just gone insane in the United States.”

Scott said she continues to have various interests, such as acting and has a television series that she has been working on for five years.

“It’s been 15 years since my first album and I’m still here. I’ve been really blessed. I’m really glad y’all still like me” she said of her music, which she says she’ll keep making for as long as it feels good.

Recently, the Grammy award winner was criticised by some fans for her support of Bill Cosby in the midst of the sexual accusations (by at least 16 women) against him, tweeting that she knew Bill Cosby, adding “I’m respecting a man who has done more for the image of Brown people than almost anyone EVER. From Fat Albert to the Huxtables.”

The songstress, who will be performing with Lira, says fans attending the show tomorrow “can expect a whole lotta passion, a lotta honesty, some incredible musicians, tender, exciting and saucy moments... The show is not a singer singing songs... It’s more than a presentation”.

“What I’m hoping to see is people with their hands in the air, people moving their bodies, hoping to see expressions changing from one emotion to the next. I hope to see people singing along, I’m hoping to see some kissin’... So I’m going to bring me, and all of me, and see what kind of interaction we have.”
