Jilted lover shoots dead ex-girlfriend, kills self

2010-06-01 13:45

A 25-year-old woman was shot dead by her ex-boyfriend before he

shot himself in Tweefontein Village, Mpumalanga.

The police’s Warrant Officer Patrick Mabena said the 28-year-old

man visited his ex-lover at her home in section A yesterday afternoon.

“A heated argument broke out between the duo. The man drew a

firearm that he apparently stole from his father and shot the woman once in the

head.

“He then turned the gun on himself and blew his head up with one

bullet,” he said.

The woman’s sister heard the gunshots at around 2pm and rushed into

the room to investigate.

She found the two bodies lying on the floor in pools of blood and

called the police.

“The man was apparently dumped by his girlfriend several weeks ago,

but he could not accept it,” said Mabena.

“He has been pestering her to take him back for several times. The

woman also obtained a protection order against him from KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s

Court last month.”

Mabena said the father of the jilted boyfriend had opened a case of

theft of his licensed firearm shortly after the incident happened. He said his

son stole the gun from its safe in his bedroom.

An inquest docket and a case of murder were opened for

investigation.
