Julius Malema has refuted suggestions that the Economic Freedom Fighters is in bed with the Democratic Alliance.

He said the DA was following the EFF.

“We are the champions of ideas and we’re not following the DA. The story is the other way round,” Malema said.

“That’s why ... [DA parliamentary leader Mmusi] Maimane ... has abandoned the accent. He now speaks like a revolutionary because he learns from the EFF.”

Addressing his supporters earlier today after his corruption trial was postponed to August next year, Malema said there was no truth in suggestions that his party was “aligning with the DA”.

“We’re not in alliance with that racist organisation. We are not in any working relationship with the DA and we will never be,” he said.

However, Malema said, “when we tell the truth and the DA supports us, we need all the support to fight the rot taking place in this country”.

He said the EFF was ready to work together with any party on actions aligned to his party’s policies.

“We said at the beginning that if the ANC wants our numbers to expropriate land without compensation, we’ll give them our numbers. If the DA wants our numbers to arrest Jacob Zuma and fight corruption, we’ll give them our numbers because we love South Africa beyond party politics,” he said.

“Anything aiming at serving South Africa, we’ll support it. We were with the DA when we were fighting a corrupt individual by the name of Jacob Zuma.”

Malema did not say whether it was the ANC that suggested his party was aligning itself with the DA. But he said the governing party “forgets that when the EFF presented a motion in Parliament for an investigation of the working and living conditions of mine workers, the ANC and DA teamed up against the EFF and voted against the investigation”.

“We’re teaming up with them against an individual. They teamed up against the workers and said ‘mineworkers must die in the mines, we don’t care about them’.”
