The top five of the MTV Base Hottest MC list was announced this afternoon, following the widely debated bottom half which was released yesterday. As expected, Cashtime Life’s K.O was named MC of the year after his single Caracara achieved massive nationwide radio play and the video notched up over a million views on YouTube. He also delivered an outstanding guest contribution on AKA’s Run Jozi single.

Coming in at number two is newly blonde-haired and gold-certified artist Cassper Nyovest, whose album Tsholofelo has produced some of the biggest hits this year. And if his place on the list is anything to go by then it could be argued he won the beef with SA’s rap prince AKA who comes in at number three, which King Forbes will no doubt have words about.

Khuli Chana landed at number four as his new single 9 Shots (referring to the 2013 incident where he was shot by the police after being mistaken for a suspect) impacts local airplay. Following some fresh debate among the roundtable of hip-hop lovers and experts, Riky Rick (yesterday’s number six) has now found his way into the top five.

The move sees Reason (who launches his new album Audio High Definition tomorrow) claim sixth spot on the chart.
