Ketso Gordhan, who resigned suddenly as PPC chief executive last week, has given some details into what happened that forced his hand, confirming details in a City Press report yesterday.

He said he and the board had disagreed “about their appropriate delegation of authority and the limits of my decision making on personnel matters”, specifically in relation to Gordhan wanting to “exit” a senior executive who he believed was putting the strategy of the company at risk.

Gordhan said once he told the board, its “ensuing interference” was unacceptable to him.

He said the board’s “inappropriate” involvement made him question whether he had its support, and “put PPC’s strategy execution, including potential shareholder value, at risk”.

Last Monday PPC made the shock announcement that Gordhan had resigned with immediate effect.

Chairperson Bheki Sibiya became executive chairperson to fill the gap.
