Kitten goes full cycle

2010-05-27 11:08

A kitten survived the full 30-minute cycle in a washing machine

after jumping in when its owner’s back was turned.

Lindsay Rogers told Sydney’s Manly Daily that 4-month-old Kimba had

been checked by a Sydney vet and was fine apart from sore eyes from the

detergent.

Rogers said: “I put the clothes in, put the powder and the fabric

softener in, put it on a cold wash – which was very lucky – and put it on for a

30-minute cycle. When I opened the door, it just went ‘meow’ and stuck its head

out.

“I couldn’t believe it – the spin cycle at the end goes really fast

and I couldn’t believe it survived,” he said.

The vet put the Persian kitten on an intravenous drip but after a

couple of hours Kimba was “purring like a little motor”.

Veterinary nurse Natalie Macdonald said it was touch and go for a

while: “She was very flat and wet, very recumbent and lying on her side and not

very responsive. She was suffering from shock and hypothermia and they put her

on a heat mat and dried her until her body temperature slowly returned to

normal.”
