Komphela confirmed as Mosimane’s assistant

2012-04-05 11:23

As reported in City Press a fortnight ago, Safa today unveiled Steve Komphela as an assistant to Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.

Komphela has joined the team with immediate effect but on a part-time basis.
This will be the Free State Stars coach’s third stint in the same capacity as he assisted Carlos Queiroz and Stuart Baxter before.

Komphela said he was honoured to have been given the responsibility to help the team.

“I am here to do national service and I am prepared and pleased,” said Komphela.

He dismissed reports that his philosophy differed from Mosimane’s, saying they have known each other since their days in the Bafana team in the 1990s.

“We come a long way and we have always kept in touch regarding the game. I would not be here if I didn’t share the same philosophy with him.”

Mosimane, who recommended Komphela, echoed the same sentiments saying he believed the two had something in common.

“We understand each other’s philosophy and character and there won’t be any problem working together. Steve has extensive knowledge of the game and I am sure he will add value to the team,” said Mosimane.

Safa chief executive Robin Petersen also announced Simon Ngomane as the new coach of the national under-17 team.
