Krejcir to appear in court

2011-04-07 08:59

Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today for a formal bail application.

Krejcir was appearing on fraud charges relating to a R4.5 million claim he allegedly made to an insurance company after managing to obtain medical papers falsely stating he had cancer.

His wife, Katerina, son Denis and mother Nadezda were present at court.

There was a heavy police presence outside court 16 ahead of the case.

State prosecutor Riegal Du Toit arrived at the court with four policemen carrying R5 rifles.

This was part of the 24-hour protection assigned to him after his name was found on an alleged hit list during a raid on Krejcir’s house last week.

Four names were on the list according to a police spokesman.

It included the names of Cyril Beeka, who was gunned down in Cape Town, security consultant Paul O’Sullivan, Du Toit and urologist Marian Tupy.

Krejcir was also being questioned about the death of underworld boss Beeka once the alleged list was found in Krejcir’s Bedfordview home.
