Limpopo UIF pays out over R21m

2010-12-13 13:00

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) paid over R21 million to beneficiaries in Limpopo in one month, the fund said today.

Limpopo deputy director of beneficiary services Ronet Landman said a total of 11 821 payments to the value of R21 426 794 were made in November.

“We received 5313 applicants and approved 4813 for the commercial sector and received 70 and approved 63 for the domestic sector.”

Landman said only two applications from the taxi industry were received and approved.

“The reason why other applications were declined would vary from one application to the other.”

Some of the reasons would be that the applicants did not apply within six months from the date of termination of their jobs, UI19 declarations were not submitted by employers, or credit days were exhausted, she said.

Limpopo UIF spokesperson Johannes Mokou said the money was paid out to applicants for benefits, such as unemployment, illness, and maternity.

“Beneficiaries from all corners of the Limpopo Province have all the reasons to smile this festive season,” he said.
