Limpopo eyes Bok Test

2012-01-17 12:11

The Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Freddy Greaver, says they intend to host a Springbok Test in the near future.

Greaver told the Beeld newspaper at the announcement of the Bulls’ friendly match against the Cheetahs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium that the city intends to host a Test match in the next few years.

The Bulls play the Cheetahs in a Super Rugby warm-up match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on February 11.

“To achieve that we have to prove that we have the ability to host Super Rugby teams like the Bulls and the Cheetahs without any problems and to fill the stadium. It could only strengthen our bid to also bring the Springboks to Polokwane in future,” said Greaver.

Greaver will invite South African Rugby Union (Saru) president Oregan Hoskins to attend the Bulls-Cheetahs clash in the hope to impress the rugby boss.

Boet Fick, a current executive member of SA Rugby and former Blue Bulls president said Greaver’s plans are not beyond the realms of possibility.

“It’s definitely not impossible that the Springboks could play a Test here in future, but it is naturally a decision that Saru will thoroughly reflect upon,” said Fick.

Meanwhile, the Blue Bulls Company also confirmed that the Bulls will play a Super Rugby warm-up match in Polokwane for the next three years.
