Limpopo youth league ‘holds no grudge’

2013-06-11 14:24

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo does not hold a grudge against the national task team which decided to disband its provincial executive committee (PEC), the outgoing leadership has said.

“Our members should emulate us by welcoming the decision, even when they might feel it as prejudice,” the PEC said in a statement today.

“One day, reality will feature and it will be the branches that will have the upper hand in deciding who gets to be elected where, based on capacity and thorough understanding of the congress movement.”

The PEC asked its members to support and respect the provincial task team which would be appointed to run the province in due course.

The PEC would be “vindicated” by organisational processes.

The ANCYL’s national task team announced yesterday it had disbanded four provincial PECs – Limpopo, Free State, North West, and Northern Cape.

This came after the task team visited the provinces to assess the ANCYL’s structures.

The task team’s convenor, Mzwandile Masina, told reporters yesterday the ANCYL was in its weakest state since its national executive committee was disbanded earlier this year.

“We have to come to a conclusion that some drastic measures need to be taken,” he said.

“A culture of gate-keeping, divisions, patronage, membership manipulation, and institutionalised factionalism has deeply entrenched itself.”
