Lion shot dead, another still at large in Limpopo

2014-09-17 14:23

One of two lions on the loose in Limpopo has been shot in Matikiring, near Tolwe.

The lions, which may have crossed the border from Botswana, have killed at least four animals in the past few days.

“One [lion] we managed to kill. One is still outstanding and we’re still busy searching for it with the helicopter and nature conservation,” Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said today.

Nature conservation officials shot the lion on Monday. The other lion’s tracks had been spotted, and local farmers were helping with the search.

“They have already killed two cows. They also killed two donkeys in the area,” Mulaudzi said.

“The allegation is that they came from Botswana.”
