MEC visits Langlaagte testing station

2010-10-04 09:23

Dozens of people queued at testing stations in Gauteng on Monday as

the centralised learner’s and driving licence call centre was no longer

accepting bookings.

“People are very happy that they can simply walk in and make

bookings themselves,” said Gauteng transport MEC Bheki Nkosi on Monday.

“A floor was allocated for it.” He was speaking after visiting the

Langlaagte station, south of Johannesburg and proceeding to the Xavier station.

“At Langlaagte, there were about 200 people in the queue for both learners and

drivers, and we expect about 400 people by the end of the day.”

There was a small technical glitch at the station in the morning

but that had been resolved, he said.

The department’s visit comes after reports last week that the

provincial call centre was dysfunctional and had inconvenienced hundreds of

people. “Now, we want to observe the new booking system until Friday. We want to

prevent inconvenience and reduce the backlogs.”

Nkosi said the call centre from the service provider would be moved

to the department to prevent further inconvenience.
