MP lays abduction charge against ex

Former Cope spokesperson Phillip Dexter has opened a case of abduction against his ex-wife for apparently leaving the country with his five-year-old daughter.

Dexter opened the case at Sea Point, Cape Town, police station yesterday after his daughter Maya flew with her mother to London last Tuesday.

“They were supposed to come back yesterday after apparently visiting my ex-wife’s sister,” he said.

“I have opened a case because she has taken Maya without consent. She is refusing access and she won’t tell me where Maya is.”

Dexter, a member of Parliament, would approach a court tomorrow to order his ex-wife to bring Maya back.

He said they were divorced more than a year ago and had joint custody.

“I have had no telephonic contact with her for a week and can only imagine how she feels being taken out of school and away from everyone she knows.”

Dexter stepped down as spokesperson for the Congress of the People in September, but was still a party member.
