LCNVL (formerly Locnville), the pop-dance twins, have won the vote to represent Africa at the 2013 MTV European Music Awards.

The Chaplin brothers, Brian and Andrew, proved to be the best Africa has to offer musically when they beat local crowd-pleasers Mafikizolo and Nigerians Wizkid and P-Square, and Fuse ODG from Ghana.

They now come up against Yo Yo Honey Singh and Ahmed Soultan – winners from India and the Middle East, respectively – and the three will slug it out for a chance to be in the last 10 of the Worldwide Act category.

The announcement from organisers MTV states that for the past six weeks the channel gave fans around the world a chance to vote for their favourite hometown artists to help them win the Best Act title in their respective markets. A total of 186 acts were in the running for this gong.

The awards will be hosted at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Sunday, November 10. Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Snoopzilla (formerly Snoop Dogg), Afrojack, Imagine Dragons, The Killers and Katy Perry are scheduled to perform at the awards.

LCNVL have sold more than 100 000 albums and have won the Bestselling Album award at the SA Music Awards as well as Best Newcomer.

The brothers have performed alongside the likes of Justin Bieber, Taio Cruz, Mike Posner and Jason Derulo.

On hearing the news, Andrew said: “I did my jumping thing, this is amazing news. I honestly didn’t know what the outcome would be, so it is a serious sense of relief to be in the know!”

The representative for Africa/India/Middle East will be announced on November 1, along with the other regional winners from North Europe, Central Europe, South Europe, East Europe, Southeast Asia/Mainland China/Hong Kong/Taiwan, Japan/Korea, Australia/New Zealand, Latin America and North America.
