Machanik mansion to be auctioned

2011-06-20 12:47

The luxury home of fraud-accused property doyenne Wendy Machanik will go under the hammer next month, an auctioneer said today.

The multi-million-rand Sandton home would be auctioned in an urgent sale on July 15, Auction Alliance spokesperson Rob Baird said.

The luxury house, built in 2004, was designed by internationally-renowned architect Bridget Grosskopff.

“The superb home is situated on a double stand in a secure, gated complex and features four bedroom suites which surround an open atrium with water features.”

It had a glass-enclosed rim-flow pool, large entertainment area and walk-in cold room. The auction had aroused “considerable interest” from local and international buyers.

Machanik and chief financial officer of her company Wendy Machanik Property Holdings, Bruce Bernstein, currently stand accused of fraud totalling R28 million.

They allegedly transferred the money from Wendy Machanik Property Holdings to a fictitious account.

Machanik allegedly used this money to keep her company afloat, and for personal expenses.

She and Bernstein were out on bail of R25 000 and R5 000 respectively. They were expected back in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on July 21.
