Bafana Bafana hero May Mahlangu has dedicated his goal against to his grandmother in Secunda, Mpumalanga, saying she has always been there for him.

Mahlangu, whose stunning curler brought Bafana equal against Morocco, said his granny was special to him as she raised him after he lost his parents.

“I dedicate that goal to her and I am happy she is able to see me doing this. She raised me from an early age and I would not be here if it were not of her,” said Mahlangu.

He said it was a great honour for him to represent his country and has vowed to continue with his fine form for the national team. He has scored two Bafana goals, against Morocco last night and against Malawi at the same Moses Mabhida Stadium in December.

He said there was nothing special about his goal and it was one of his trade mark goals in Sweden where he plies his trade for Helsingborgs.

“It was a great move and I was relaxed and composed when I took it. I knew we were going to come back as they allowed us to come in the second half. But it was not an easy game as they made it really difficult for us to play our normal game but at the end we got what we wanted.”

Mahlangu said the team was ready to face any opponent in the quarterfinals as they were not scared.

“We will be ready for any team that comes our way and we will take it one game at a time and hopefully we will reach the final.”

Mahlangu dismissed injury concerns after he left the field limping, saying it was nothing too serious. He said it was just a minor calf injury and was expected to resume training with the rest of the team tomorrow.
