An Angolan man has been arrested at Joburg’s OR Tambo International Airport with cocaine bullets, with a street value of about R250 000, in his stomach.

The 41-year-old was arrested on arrival from Sao Paulo, in Brazil, at 8am yesterday. He was en route to Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko.

Police discovered the man had swallowed the cocaine when he was taken through an X-ray machine, he said. Sixty-nine bullets of cocaine were seized.

“We will keep him at the airport until he completes releasing all cocaine bullets from his digestive tract,” Ramaloko said.

The man would appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
