Man dies in Umhlanga crash

2011-02-04 08:51

A man died when his car burst into flames after crashing into a truck en route to Umhlanga this morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

“When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived, the car was totally engulfed in flames and they were unable to get close to the patient to examine him,” said spokesperson Chris Botha.

An eyewitness to the early-morning accident had pulled the man out of the car and left him on the road next to the vehicle.
But paramedics could only reach him after the fire was extinguished.

“Medics examined the driver, but found that he had tragically died due to the extensive injuries that he had sustained in the crash,” Botha said.

Eyewitnesses said the 18-wheeler truck was travelling slowly in a northerly direction towards Umhlanga when the car smashed into its back near the M25 off-ramp on the N2 highway.
