Man with half a tongue still on the run

2011-01-31 13:10

Mpumalanga police were today still looking for a man whose tongue was partly bitten off when he allegedly tried to rape a woman near Hazyview.

“Word has been put out to hospitals that they must let police know if a man with a severed tongue comes in,” Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

The woman was attacked while walking home on January 22 around 7pm in Swalala village in the Masoyi area near Hazyview.

“In the process of trying to rape her the man had his tongue [partly] bitten off... he tried to kiss her and that’s when she bit him hard.”

The man ran off and the woman alerted the police.

They sent the piece of tongue to a hospital for forensic tests, but Hlathi would not stipulate which hospital.

“We hope that someone will see this man and help us catch him.”
