An interim order has been granted against Mandla Mandela in the Mthatha High Court, Lubabalo Ngcukana reports from the Eastern Cape.

This comes after 17 members of the Mandela family approached the court this morning, seeking the return, to Qunu, of the family remains Mandla Mandela had moved from Qunu to Mvezo.

The remains of Mandla's father, Makgatho Mandela, and his siblings, Thembekile and Makaziwe, were allegedly dug up by Mandla in 2011 without consulting the rest of the Mandela family. He reburied them in Mvezo, where he is also a chief and where his internationally respected grandfather was born.

Mandla was not present at court.

The order, granted by Judge Lusindiso Pakade, has not been made public.
