Mandlakayise Sangweni bail application postponed

2013-12-31 11:55

AmaZulu goalkeeper Mandlakayise Sangweni appeared in the Ngwelezane Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal for allegedly shooting and wounding his uncle.

The 26-year-old’s bail application was postponed yesterday and he will be back in court on Thursday, The Star reported today.

His lawyer, Vusumuzi Ndlovu, told the court yesterday that prosecutor Nkosisapha Mbatha had objected to Sangweni’s bail application because the investigating officer was not present, the newspaper reported.

Sangweni allegedly shot his uncle Vusumuzi Sangweni at his homestead in Kwambonambi on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, apparently after an argument about witchcraft on Friday. The uncle is in a critical condition in a local hospital.

Sangweni is the brother of Orlando Pirates and Bafana defender Siyabonga Sangweni (31). His younger brother Thamsanqa (24) plays for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sangweni’s bail application will be heard in the Kwambonambi Magistrates’ Court on January 2.
