Manyi’s contract not renewed

2012-08-27 12:30

Government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi’s contract has not been renewed, the Presidency has said.

“Mr Manyi left his position on the 25 August 2012 after serving his full three-year contract,” the presidency said in a statement today.

Manyi was CEO of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and Cabinet spokesperson.

He joined GCIS in February 2011 from the department of labour, where he was transferred to complete the rest of his contract as director general in the public service.

Manyi denied reports in June that he received a letter indicating that his contract would not be renewed.

“There is no such thing, it is a complete fabrication,” Manyi said at the time.

In June, an unnamed government official was reported as saying: “Effectively [Manyi] has been sacked from government, in particular for repeatedly making embarrassing remarks.”

Another official claimed Manyi’s comments on the Gauteng e-tolls were “thoughtless”.

The Presidency said Manyi’s position will be advertised and filled after a suitable candidate has been found.
