Mass funeral for Vaal Dam accident dead

2011-06-04 09:37

A mass funeral would be held today in Vereeniging for six people who died when their car plunged into the Vaal Dam, the Saturday Star reported.

“The council has given us the Zone Three stadium in Sebokeng,” daughter of the driver killed in the accident Dudu Nkala said.

“We will hold the service for all of them there.”

She said that the families had been offered help in various forms, including lawyers and counselling.

A 37-year-old man and five females, aged from two to 74, drowned when their Opel Corsa crashed through a bridge barrier and landed in the Vaal Dam on May 25.

It was believed that pot holes on the bridge may have caused the accident, and the families were considering legal action.

They were on their way home after a funeral in KwaZulu-Natal when the accident occurred.
