After 12 rounds of absolute domination, Floyd "Money" Mayweather has defeated Mexican-born Saul "Canelo" Alvarez by a majority score decision of 114-114, 116-112 and 117-111.

The per-per-view king once again proved this morning just why he's called the best boxer of all time by many, blemishing Alvarez's record for the first time in the Mexican's professional career.

"Pretty Boy" as Mayweather is popularly known did not only make history in the ring but the event broke TV audience records with the fight said to have been watched by 1.3 billion across the globe.

The 23-year-old Alvarez never pitched for the fight, despite the judge's score cards, as Mayweather made a clean sweep in all 12 rounds.

It is not over for Alvarez though as the pride of Mexico has a bright future ahead of him with age on his side.

Mayweather looked in great shape compared to his previous fight and executed his game plan to perfection in what now many refer to as 'boxing made easy'.

The big question though remains whether the much talked about contest with Manny Pacquiao will ever see the light of day.

At this stage, the Las Vegas based fighter has defeated all possible tough competitors in exception of Pacquiao and the likelihood is the fight will never happen.

Something that may drive him to retirement soon, but only after his six-fight lucrative contract with television network Showtime expires.

He's got four fights remaining in the deal estimated to be worth more than $200 million (about R2 billion).

As he himself likes to say, "there is no blue print on how to beat Mayweather."
