Mbalula to open Global Athletics Conference

Sports minister Fikile Mbalula will officially open the inaugural Global Athletics Conference that gets underway in Durban today.

The gathering, which ends tomorrow, is a two-day dialogue on the business of athletics and the sharing of new ideas in the sport.

The event has attracted among others, sought-after Kenyan marathon runners Dennis Kimetto and Wilson Kipsang who are currently the world's two fastest men over 42km races.

Other guests are Trinidad and Tobago's four-time Olympic sprint medallist Ato Boldon and Jackie Koyner-Kersee, the legendary heptathlete from the US.

South Africa have Olympic medallist and endurance running coach Elana Meyer among the high profile panelists.
