Mbau’s copycat sushi party

2010-11-14 10:31

The invitation said it all: “For his birthday party Kenny Kunene introduced you to Nyotaimori (female body presentation or body sushi). For her Tropika Island Of Treasure 3 farewell party to Phuket, Thailand, Khanyi Mbau introduces you to Nantaimori (male body presentation or body sushi).”

And that was enough to get everyone dressed “bling”, as the invitation demanded, and head for Zar, the exclusive Sandton party scene where Sushi King Kunene had his infamous 40th, R700?000-plus birthday bash a few weeks ago.

And if the women’s rights groups were incensed by images of Kunene eating sushi off the body of a beautiful naked young woman, the men’s rights groups had better start drawing their daggers too.

Because Mbau, not known for ever sparing any drama in her partying career, had something quite interesting in store at her farewell do.

And though it may have been a shoestring party compared to King Kunene’s, it had its fair share of drama.

But before Mbau could eat her sushi off the well-chiselled body of a male model, the party almost ended before it took-off when the cops came knocking.

All eyes were on Mbau as she prepared to chow her sushi but the men in blue, accompanying a man holding a notebook and wearing a suit that showed he wasn’t invited to the party, became the centre of attraction.

They briefly spoke to Kunene while guests fidgeted in their seats hoping he wasn’t about to be carried off with not-so-bling silver bracelet accessories on his wrists.

There was relief all over the club as the three officers left 30 minutes after stealing Mbau’s thunder.

“They were only here to check the club’s compliance about everything,” said Kunene, who shrugged off the unwelcome late night visit.

Mbau then climbed on top of the male model clad only in underwear and started eating off him like a hungry man-eater.

Posing in a way that gets cameras flashing, Mbau just came short of looking like a madam in a brothel in one of her endless supply of disastrous dresses. Only this time one could see she was clearly missing some see-through glass heels.

After her meal Mbau went back to sit on her throne, surrounded by unopened bottles of expensive champagne and a pre-schoolish paper cut-out of her name.

Take away a couple of zeros from Kunene’s party and you have yourself Mbau’s budget.

If the socialite’s aim was to cause tongues to wag with her sushi-board copycat stunt before leaving for Asia on Saturday it didn’t quite live up to expectations.

And who paid for it by the way, seeing as Mbau is unemployed?
