Mbazo blocks the road to tie the knot

2010-07-18 15:34

Bafana Bafana’s captain, Aaron Mokoena, celebrated his wedding

yesterday at an intimate and private affair at his mother’s home in

Vanderbijlpark.

Chesterton Street was closed off Fifa-style with only invited

guests and residents of the street able to pass.

Mbazo, as he is affectionately known, was dressed in a white suit

and his wife, known as Anastasia, was wearing a white, puffy ball-gown wedding

dress.

Slap bang in the middle of the suburbs Mbazo and his blushing bride were

singing and stepping out township-style.

An elderly woman ululated in front of the couple as she swept the

street with a broom, as if clearing their path.

Motorists who tried to enter the street were visibly peeved when

they were turned back by bodyguards. City Press was kicked out by men calling

themselves Mbazo’s bodyguards, wearing black suits.

They tried to confiscate notepads and cameras.

This was after Mbazo had barked: “I don’t want them here, they must

go.”

There was a white tent erected in the yard into which the small

crowd disappeared after the parade.

Once the singing stopped the street went quiet. Temporary loos,

expensive German cars and a blockaded street all announced that something big

was happening.
