Fans of McDreamy – the dishy doctor on Grey’s Anatomy brought to life by Patrick Dempsey – may be delighted to learn that the heart-throb’s wife of 15 years has filed for divorce.

E! News published a statement issued by Jillian Fink and Dempsey that reads: “It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage.

“Our primary concern remains the wellbeing of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.”

Fink cited “irreconcilable differences” for the end of what was widely regarded in Hollywood as a solid union.

E! News reports that the pair has three children: 14-year-old daughter Tallulah, and seven-year-old twin sons Darby and Sullivan.

The pair tied the knot in July 1999. It was a second marriage for the hunky actor, who plays Dr Derek Shepherd on the hit medical drama that’s now in its 11th season in the US.

He was married to his In the Mood co-star Rocky Parker from 1987 to 1994.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2011, Dempsey said that the key to a successful marriage was “accepting that you’re not going to change the other person. And the words ‘Yes, dear. Whatever you want’.”
