Local and international media waited in the rain outside the imposing house in Waterkloof, Pretoria, of Arnold Pistorius, Oscar Pistorius’ uncle, ahead of the start of the Paralympian’s murder trial.

Arnold and his wife, Loïs, took pity on Oscar, his sister and brother after the death of their mother, Sheila, in 2002. Arnold has been the family’s main spokesperson since the death of Oscar’s girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on February 14 last year.

Three security guards were stationed outside the house this morning.

Shortly after 7am, numerous vehicles stopped outside and a woman entered the house, carrying a gift. Carl, Pistorius’ older brother, arrived just before 8am in a suit.

Sister Aimee arrived shortly after.

They looked straight ahead, turning their backs to the media.
