Metro cops to face hearing

2011-06-30 09:00

Three Joburg Metro Police officers will face a disciplinary hearing for alleged misconduct and corruption, a spokesperson said today.

The trio allegedly assaulted a colleague from internal affairs on Tuesday, after he arrested one of them for allegedly taking a R30 bribe from a taxi driver in Auckland Park, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

“When the internal affairs officer arrested the one who took the bribe, a sergeant and second officer intervened and allegedly assaulted him. The three then turned around and arrested him instead.”

The three face charges of misconduct and corruption. They would remain on duty pending the outcome of the hearing.
