Metropolitan Premier Cup goes down the wire

2013-04-01 10:04

Western Cape will this afternoon collide with Gauteng in the 25th edition of the Metropolitan Under-19 Premier Cup final at Erica Park playing grounds in Berlah near Cape Town.

Western Cape outfit Ajax Cape Town will face off with Berea Albion in what is expected to be a cracker considering the teams the two trampled on during their road to the final.

The former has shown they mean business from day one with an impressive 7-0 thrashing of Berlah Spurs in a group opening game.

Giants and favourites Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns were both tossed out of the showpiece by the Cape side during the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

If Ajax’s form persists today, they are almost guaranteed to win the tournament and walk away with the grand prize of R30 000.

But Ajax would try avoid complacency. Partly as a result of a rather relaxed style of play, Albion has surprised many by reaching this stage of the competition.

This might be just another moment for the Gauteng side to cause an upset and steal the show at the expense of the Capetonians.

Whoever becomes a victor, the entire tournament has provided a stage for tomorrow’s stars to showcase their talent, an occasion many haven risen up to with games of quality and high standard.

The final kicks off at 3:30pm and before that legends of the game such as Shakes Kungwane and many more will take to the field at 1pm hoping to inspire the youngsters.
