Michael Douglas’ son caught with drugs

2011-12-21 09:03

New York – Cameron Douglas, son of one of Hollywood’s most famous acting families, could be ordered to stay behind bars beyond his current sentence for drug dealing.

The troubled son of Oscar winning actor Michael Douglas was sentenced in April last year to five years for drug trafficking, but has been caught possessing drugs while in prison.

Cameron (33) wrote to Judge Richard Berman ahead of his hearing today, pleading for clemency.

In the handwritten, two page letter, he speaks of being “saturated in my own shame and penitence” and begs for another chance to “navigate my way through this menacing tempest”.

Leniency According to the document in his court file, Cameron tells Berman that drug addiction has “robbed me of a life that should and could have been rife in promise”.

However, now “I feel so strongly for the first time in my life that I am truly ripe for positive reform and real achievement”.

Before Cameron’s original sentencing, Michael, his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, his father and legendary actor Kirk Douglas all wrote to the court, asking that leniency be shown to Cameron.

Once an aspiring actor, Cameron was arrested in August in a New York hotel with large quantities of methamphetamine (or tik).

The prosecution said he was selling large quantities of methamphetamine in addition to using the drugs himself.

He either sent or transported packets of the drug to New York from California and had cash payments sent by courier to a California hotel.

He was previously jailed in 1999 and in 2007 on drug charges.
