Defending Nedbank Cup champions SuperSport United have vowed to demolish Platinum Stars to reach their second successive final.

The two teams meet in tonight’s semifinal at Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Kickoff is at 7.30pm.

After being knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup by Egyptian side ENPPI, the Nedbank Cup is the only piece of silverware for United to play for this season as they have no chance of claiming the league title while Stars still have a chance to wrestle the title from favourites Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs have already booked a date with the winner of tonight’s clash.

United’s coach Gavin Hunt has made it clear that he wants to defend the title and salvage something this season.

But he conceded it would not be easy against a resurgent Stars, particularly away from home.

Stars have been the surprise package of the season, as they have also pushed Chiefs all the way in the league title race.

Under Cavin Johnson, Stars have been a marvel to watch, with the likes of Thuso Phala and Mogakolodi Ngele coming to the party.

But United seem to have found their footing of late, after a sluggish start to the season. They have slowly climbed up the league ladder, albeit playing too many draws.

The winner of this tournament will represent the country at next year’s CAF Confederations Cup.
