Mom and toddler stabbed, raped

2011-03-21 07:40

A mother and her one-year-old toddler have died after being stabbed and raped at their home in a township outside of the town of Stensyrus in the Free State on Saturday, police said. Her two-year-old child, who was also attacked, is in intensive care.

“The mother, who is 30, took her two children aged one and two went to visit her friend on Friday night,” Captain Harry Nagel said yesterday.

“They returned home at 10pm. When the friend came to the woman’s shack at 8.30am on Saturday morning she knocked on the door but heard no answer.

“She saw one of the windows was open and looked through. She saw the woman lying on the bed.”

The friend phoned the police.

When the police the arrived they found that the woman had been stabbed in her back and raped.

Both the toddlers had also been raped.

“The one-year-old had stab wounds around the neck and shoulder. The two-year-old had serious head injuries,” Nagel said.

“It seems the suspect gained entry through a window.”

The mother and child both died. The two-year-old was in intensive care at a nearby hospital.

No arrests have been made.
